51-year-old Lavoisier Demont Hill was stopped in the right shoulder lane on I-40 West around 2 a.m. on May 11th. When officers observed this, they approached the car and noticed Hill was asleep in the driver’s seat with his pants undone, engine running, and headlights on. After they knocked on the window, he woke up, appearing confused as he struggled to roll the windows down. Officers asked if everything was fine, and he told them he was “straight.”

He reeked of alcohol, so officers had him exit the vehicle, where he fell backward into the seat and had to brace himself to get out. Then, Hill told them he was heading home from his brother’s house and did not consume any alcohol. He consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, and was placed under arrest. He told officers that he left his brothers around 8 p.m. and admitted to having a drink around 3 p.m. Officers later discovered Hill had a prior DUI conviction from Alabama in August 2020. He was then transported to Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital and charged with driving under the influence-2nd offense.
