26-year-old William Shatto was involved in a single-vehicle accident in his orange Hyundai Kona accident at Exit 213A on I-40 East early June 28th. Upon arrival, officers noticed the Hyundai was horizontally sitting on the left shoulder and had struck the rock wall with its front end. Also, the front driver’s wheel was bent, and the rear driver’s wheel was off the vehicle. Then, they located Shatto, who told them that he was driving on the way to his hotel from dinner. Shatto stated that since he was from Texas, he was unfamiliar with the area and crashed because he reached the exit quicker than expected. Shatto admitted to having two beers, one of which was an IPA. While officers interacted with Shatto, they reported that he reeked of alcohol and was showing signs of impairment. After prompting Shatto with sobriety tests, to which he consented, he performed poorly on them. After being informed of implied consent, he agreed to provide a breath sample, resulting in 0.085 BAC%. Shatto was then taken into custody for driving under the influence.
