41-year-old Kirk Appleton was seen shoplifting at the Target on Gallatin Pike North on June 25th. While officers were patrolling the area, they were flagged down by a Target loss prevention employee. She told officers that she observed Appleton stealing from the store. She went on to say that she had recovered the stolen property once she confronted him, but he ran away from her. During their conversation, Appleton was reported to be at the Rivergate Mall, so officers made their way to the parking lot, where they immediately found and detained Appleton. Appleton was asked to stand in front of the car, which he had initially done before deciding to leave the area. Officers followed Appleton and detained him again. While doing so, he began resisting officers by tensing his body up. Appleton continued to attempt to escape from the officers but was taken to the ground, where he was placed into custody for resisting arrest.
