22-year-old Nathaniel Mergen was involved in a motor vehicle accident near Elm Hill Pike and the Briley Parkway South Entrance ramp on July 9th. When officers arrived, they located Mergen and noticed he showed signs of impairment. NFD CPT Ambergey, advised officers that Mergen threw out an empty RITAS Mango-o-Rita tall boy can on the ground. Police prompted Mergen with sobriety tests, during which he performed poorly and was detained for the incident. Toward the end of the tests, Mergen stated he had smoked a marijuana vape and drank earlier throughout the day. Then, he was transported to Nashville General Hospital, where he refused to give a blood sample. Mergen told staff he was allegedly afraid of needles and that marijuana would show up on the test. Mergen was then taken into custody for driving under the influence on July 10th.
