55-year-old Paula Jean Wheeler caused a disturbance at Thompson Nashville on 11th Avenue South late July 28th. Before officers arrived, they confirmed that the establishment had a valid trespass waiver on file. When officers responded to the hotel, they observed Wheeler in the lobby. Wheeler left the lobby and met with officers. Then, officers spoke with hotel security, who stated that Wheeler had entered the business and stayed for an extended amount of time before they asked if she was a guest. Wheeler told staff she wasn’t a guest and refused to leave the property. They added that when Wheeler became verbally aggressive, they alerted the authorities. Security further explained that Wheeler had left before the police arrived.

Then, about 20 minutes after the officers left, security said that Wheeler returned and was disorderly once again. While officers investigated, Wheeler was loud and uncooperative towards them. Wheeler initially refused to provide police with her information but eventually told them her name. However, when officers asked her for her social security number, she became agitated. Wheeler attempted to leave despite being told she was not free to. Then, the police tried to detain her, during which she tensed up and did not put her hands behind her back until they could handcuff her. Wheeler was taken into custody for criminal trespass and resisting arrest on July 29th.
