28-year-old Aubrey Chase Hawes was observed speeding on I-24 in the early hours of August 1st. Officers noticed Hawes going 75 mph while changing lanes. Then, when Hawes saw the police, he tried to brake at the last minute. However, officers initiated a traffic stop, and Hawes pulled over to the right shoulder.

Officers approached the passenger side and asked Hawes for his driver’s license. As they did this, they smelled a strong alcoholic odor emitting from the vehicle. Officers then prompted Hawes with sobriety tests. Hawes consented and performed poorly on the tests. During pre-field test questioning, Hawes admitted to drinking before driving. Hawes was then taken into custody for driving under the influence.

Guess I am a different mindset. FIRST TIME DUI – you get your vehicle taken. And then we go from there on additional offenses.
