50-year-old Steve Campbell Jr. was caught with a stolen silver 2017 Kia at a Stilton Drive residence on August 17th. The vehicle’s owner, Jeffery Barrett, provided officers with the mentioned location. Barrett also provided officers with the car tag information and a detailed description of the vehicle’s appearance. Once officers arrived, they observed Campbell Jr. in the backseat of the stolen vehicle and took him into custody. Campbell Jr., who had possession of the keys to the vehicle, told officers under Miranda that he had bought the car for four thousand dollars. When asked if he knew the car was stolen, he said, “No.” Campbell Jr. then told the officers that he was the vehicle’s legal owner, claiming he had a bill of sale from the purchase to prove it.

However, Campbell Jr. was unable to present this document to the police. Campbell Jr. also failed to give officers any information about who he allegedly had purchased the vehicle from. When officers escorted Barrett to inspect his vehicle, he pointed out a new issue. The touch screen, which had previously been intact, was now damaged. As officers searched the car, they found Barrett’s phone. When questioned about this, Campbell Jr. claimed the phone did not belong to him. Campbell Jr. was then taken into custody and charged with vandalism and theft of property on August 18th.
