36-year-old Michael Taft was seen in a blue Dodge Ram 1500 making an illegal U-turn on Hermitage Avenue on September 7th. Officers observed this but continued to follow him. They finally decided to conduct a traffic stop once they saw him swerving out of his lane. When officers made contact with Taft, they noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he had a strong smell of alcohol. After officers asked Taft to step out of his truck, they detected more signs of intoxication, so they asked him to perform sobriety tests.
Taft consented to the sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. Taft was then taken into custody and read implied consent. While in custody, Taft told officers that he had a firearm in the center console of his truck. Following this, Taft was transported to booking, where a breath test revealed a blood alcohol level of .119% BAC. Taft was later charged with driving under the influence and possessing a weapon while under the influence on September 8th.
Michael David Taft of Bucks Pocket Drive in New Market, AL, was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail on September 8th, charged with driving under the influence and possession of a weapon while under the influence. He is free on a $2,500 bond.
