DUI: Paul Wright crashes into multiple barriers on I-24 during overdose

46-year-old Paul Wright had a single-vehicle accident on I-24 West near Mile Marker 48.9 late August 4th. The police report stated that Wright crashed into the barrier on the right side of the interstate. Wright then accelerated across all four lanes before driving into the left barrier and stopping. Responding officers approached the vehicle and found Wright unresponsive with red eyes and dilated pupils in the driver’s seat. After officers gave him two doses of Narcan, he eventually became conscious. While searching Wright’s vehicle, officers found a cooler with Corona beer bottles within arm’s reach of the driver’s seat. Officers also found a small plastic bottle containing a white powdery substance in the center console with a straw near it. Wright was then transported to the hospital for further medical attention, where medics advised officers that he would be admitted for over three hours. Under Miranda, Wright admitted to drinking alcohol while fishing earlier in the day. When Wright was informed of implied consent, he refused to provide a chemical sample. Wright was cited for the occurrence that day. Wright was later booked on the citation for driving under the influence and an implied consent violation on August 27th.
