Scott Borchers charged with DUI after rear-ending vehicle on I-40 East

50-year-old Scott Borchers was involved in a car accident on I-40 East near Mile Marker 219 in the early hours of June 21st. When officers arrived, Borchers told them the other vehicle involved in the crash rear-ended his black Hyundai sedan. The evidence from the crash showed otherwise and was consistent with him rear-ending the other driver. Borchers claimed that he was driving to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and denied that he consumed any alcohol. As they spoke with Borchers, officers noticed he had an open alcoholic beverage in his center console. When asked about the beverage, Borchers said he lied to them, adding that he had three throughout the night. While speaking to Borchers, officers noted that he reeked of alcohol and showed several signs of intoxication. This prompted officers to request Borchers to perform sobriety tests. Borchers performed poorly and almost fell over, forcing officers to assist him. After being read implied consent, Borchers refused to provide a chemical sample. Borchers was taken into custody for driving under the influence, an open-container violation, and an implied consent violation.
